THE BRIEF
Following a competitive selection process, Fitzpatrick Design secured a place on Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council's Design Framework.
The appointment provided an opportunity to support a variety of Council departments with professional graphic design and creative communications.
Working within the public sector requires a thoughtful balance of creativity, clarity and practicality. Communications need to present information effectively, engage different audiences and maintain a high standard of visual presentation.
Our role was to provide responsive, imaginative design support capable of meeting the Council's communication requirements across a range of projects.
THE CREATIVE APPROACH
Our approach focused on combining strong visual design with clear communication, ensuring that each project was appropriate for its intended audience and purpose.
For editorial and marketing publications, this meant developing engaging layouts, effective typography and carefully considered imagery to make information easy to navigate and enjoyable to read.
Working collaboratively with the Council's communications and marketing teams, we applied creative direction, design and photography to produce publications that were visually engaging, practical and professionally executed.
THE RESULT
Through its appointment to the Council's Design Framework, Fitzpatrick Design contributed creative design services to public-facing communications, including B Magazine and the Barnsley Museums Trust What's On Guide.
The projects combined editorial design, art direction and photography to produce professional publications supporting town centre and cultural marketing.
The relationship also reflects the importance of collaboration, reliability and understanding a client's objectives when delivering creative services for public sector organisations.
“It’s a real pleasure working with the creative team at Fitzpatrick Design. They are innovative and inspiring and really develop an understanding of what we are aiming to achieve. They always meet our deadlines and are willing to go the extra mile for us. Really happy with the work they produce. It’s fantastic!”

B MAGAZINE – TOWN CENTRE MARKETING & EDITORIAL DESIGN
One of our projects for Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council was B Magazine, a quarterly publication promoting Barnsley town centre.
Fitzpatrick Design provided art direction, graphic design and photography, bringing together the visual elements needed to create an engaging editorial publication.
Magazine design involves more than arranging text and images. Effective editorial design establishes a clear visual hierarchy, gives content room to breathe and creates a consistent reading experience.
Our work on B Magazine demonstrates how creative direction, photography and publication design can work together to support town centre marketing and local communications.
BARNSLEY MUSEUMS TRUST – WHAT'S ON GUIDE DESIGN
We also designed a 48-page What's On Guide for Barnsley Museums Trust.
Cultural publications need to communicate a variety of activities, events and experiences while remaining clear, engaging and easy for readers to use.
The guide brought together information within a cohesive editorial format, using thoughtful layout and graphic design to help audiences explore the cultural programme.
The project highlights our experience in museum marketing, cultural communications and brochure design for organisations looking to promote their activities and encourage public engagement.
PUBLIC SECTOR GRAPHIC DESIGN & LOCAL AUTHORITY COMMUNICATIONS
Local authorities communicate with diverse audiences across a wide range of services, activities and initiatives.
Effective public sector graphic design helps make these communications more accessible, consistent and engaging, whether through printed publications, promotional materials or wider marketing campaigns.
Our appointment to Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council's Design Framework demonstrates our ability to work within a public sector environment, respond to different creative briefs and support communications teams with professional design expertise.
