Carers Plus Yorkshire – Charity Brand Development & Rebranding
Carers Plus Yorkshire is a charity supporting unpaid carers and the wider community across Yorkshire, helping people feel listened to, supported and empowered.
The organisation was formed in 2021 through the merger of Scarborough & Ryedale Carers Resource and Hambleton & Richmondshire Carers Centre, bringing together decades of experience within one newly unified organisation.
Fitzpatrick Design worked closely with the team through an extensive process of discovery and brand development to create a fresh, modern identity that could bring the organisations together, communicate their shared vision and establish Carers Plus Yorkshire as a recognisable and trusted support resource.

THE BRIEF
The creation of Carers Plus Yorkshire represented an important new chapter for two established organisations.
Scarborough & Ryedale Carers Resource and Hambleton & Richmondshire Carers Centre had spent many years providing information, advice and support to unpaid carers within their respective communities.
Their merger created a new organisation with a shared vision and a wider geographical reach.
The challenge was to create a new brand capable of bringing those organisations together while communicating the energy, accessibility and professionalism of Carers Plus Yorkshire.
The identity needed to feel fresh and distinctive while establishing trust with existing service users, new audiences, partners and the wider community.
THE CREATIVE APPROACH
Our work began with a detailed process of discovery and development.
Understanding the organisation, its vision, audiences and ambitions allowed us to explore how the new brand could communicate both the professionalism of the organisation and the human nature of the support it provides.
We developed a fresh, vibrant identity system designed to be approachable, recognisable and flexible enough to work across a broad range of communications.
Rather than simply creating a new logo, we developed a visual language that could help Carers Plus Yorkshire establish recognition from launch and provide the organisation with a consistent foundation for future communications.
CHARITY BRAND DEVELOPMENT
Charity brands often need to communicate with many different audiences at the same time.
Service users, families, volunteers, funders, partners, stakeholders and the wider community may all encounter an organisation in different ways.
A clear and consistent identity can help bring those communications together, making the organisation easier to recognise while helping communicate its purpose and personality.
For Carers Plus Yorkshire, brand development provided an opportunity to establish a new organisation with a distinctive identity while respecting the experience and reputation behind the two organisations that came together to create it.
THE RESULT
The new identity gave Carers Plus Yorkshire a vibrant, modern and recognisable brand through which it could communicate its shared vision.
The organisation launched the identity during Carers Week and quickly began building recognition around the new brand.
Most importantly, the response from the Carers Plus Yorkshire team was extremely positive, with its leadership reporting that the new brand had already made a significant difference to the organisation.
CREATING A BRAND FOLLOWING A MERGER
A merger creates a particular branding challenge.
Two established organisations can bring different histories, audiences and identities together, while the resulting organisation needs to communicate a clear new direction.
For Carers Plus Yorkshire, the objective was not simply to combine two existing identities. It was to create a new brand capable of representing a shared vision.
The resulting identity gave the organisation a fresh visual platform from which to build awareness, recognition and trust.
BRAND IDENTITY ACROSS EVERY TOUCHPOINT
A successful charity identity needs to work consistently across the many ways people interact with an organisation.
The Carers Plus Yorkshire visual system was developed to provide flexibility across marketing materials, printed communications and wider brand applications while retaining a recognisable overall identity.
This consistency helps reinforce recognition and gives internal teams a practical framework for creating future communications without losing the character of the brand.
BRAND IMPLEMENTATION & GUIDANCE
Launching a new identity successfully involves more than supplying artwork.
Fitzpatrick Design worked with the Carers Plus Yorkshire team to help them understand how to use the new brand consistently and effectively.
Providing guidance around the identity helped the organisation establish recognition quickly following launch and gave its team greater confidence when applying the brand across future communications.
This was particularly important because the new identity was being introduced during Carers Week, giving the organisation an immediate opportunity to establish its new presence.
“We appointed Fitzpatrick Design to help us create a new, vibrant, energetic brand. With unwavering commitment, the team worked hard to not only deliver in time for our launch during Carers Week, but also educated us on how to use the new brand and ensure we quickly built up recognition.”
Elizabeth McPherson | Chief Executive Officer
“We cannot tell you the positive difference our new brand has made already. If you are thinking of re-branding, work with Fitzpatrick Design. You won’t regret it!”
